Do NOT Buy Blue Torrent pump from ISLAND RECREATION
My wife went to the Medford store for the supposed "PSE&G rebate Blue Torrent pump which will save us 85% electricity". It was supposed to come with "White Glove service".
First they came by and installed the pump when we were not home even though we tried to get them to come by at times when we will be. When I came home, I found out that there is no cord to plug into the outlet. When I called their customer service rep, he informed me that "the inground pool pumps don't come with the cord." At which point I said, "it would have been nice to tell me that before I bought $1000 item from your store." And, that if they didn't tell me that then, they should have told me when coming for installation so that I would have ordered the extra part for the full installation of the pump. The guys answer, "yeah they should have." And then I said, "well, what kind of white glove service is this, my pool is not operational, how do I go by rectifying this problem." Their answer, call an electrician.
So, I paid $1000 for a pump and "White glove service" to have an uninstalled pump that can never work until I get the electrician on my dime to come by and install it. Wow!! So BEWARE of this company and their "White glove service".
They will say whatever to make a sale. Do NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE GUYS

Blue torrent pump
Bought a new pump at island rec. The day of the install the technician said that he will install this but without the cord.
He charged me twenty dollars to switch the cord from my old pump to the new energy efficient unit. he installed it and it was leaking at the fitting so he changed one of the fittings ( fittings were different from my original pump) He charged me another twenty dollars to change the fitting. now my other fitting was leaking a bit so He put Teflon tape and said he had no more fittings left to change it. If not it would be another twenty dollars.
he gave me his phone number and said if this fitting leaks call me don't call the office. a few days later, the fitting leaked I called him left numerous messages and he never got back to me. like most of there reviews do not do business with island recreational.
this new pump is energy efficient but does not have the power as my old pump . biggest mistake I made.
Defective Two Speed Pool Pumps
Early in June (2014) I purchased Blue Torrent two speed pool pump, supposedly as part of PSE&G's mail in rebate program (for which Island Recreational asked me to fill out no rebate paperwork, letting me install the pump myself-contrary to PSE&G's rules). Less than three weeks after installing the pump, the pump stopped running. I returned to the Farmingdale store where I purchased the pump and was told I must first have the pump checked at their Massespequa repair facility and get a warranty authorization, then come back to the store. I was told however that they did not have my top discharge style pump in stock. After explaining that my pool had already been sitting with no circulation for days I was told that a truck from their warehouse wasn't due for several more days.I was told I could go to the warehouse in Deer Park myself where they did have my style pump.
I went to the repair facility, where, in the five minutes I was there, two other people brought the same pumps in with the same problem, and where the repair technician, when asked, admitted to me that these pumps had been coming in to the facility steadily. I received my warranty authorization and was told that before proceeding to the warehouse, I needed to go back to the Farmingdale store for additional paperwork.
Upon returning to the Farmingdale store, convinced that a new pump would last no longer than the first, and so I asked for a refund. Naturally they refused to refund my money citing their "refund policy" that had no provision for defective items and stated that refunds would only be issued if the item was returned in the original package, in resalable condition. After some arguing I was assured that the pump was in stock at the warehouse and resigned myself to pick it up, knowing I would be repeating this experience.
I went to the Deer Park warehouse and was given a new pump which I had to sign for. Before leaving the facility I decided to check the pump and found they had given me a side discharge model which was totally useless to me. I returned and told the warehouse man that he had given me the wrong pup. He explained to me that he knew this but that they had no more top discharge models. I asked him what I was supposed to do with this and he said he understood but wad told regardless to give me this model .
I returned to the Farmingdale store where I demanded refund which again they denied based on their "refund policy". They offered me no choice but to keep the incorrect pump.
Now my pool was sitting with no water circulation, becoming a health hazard, so I a had no choice but to purchase a purchase a pump elsewhere . Now I am stuck with a pump I can't use.
These people are knowingly selling defective equipment, offering no refunds, and cannot replace the defective equipment with good equipment.

I bought a aqabot turbo in 2013.from the Deer Park store. Just over a year later it stopped working.
I brought it to the service center in Massapequa August 18 and were told they would evaluate it and call to tell us what was wrong with it and if we wanted it repaired . After several phone calls from us to customer service 516 520 **** we never heard anything back.
Now we got in touch with someone on October 6th we were told the repair center is closed and it needs a pump motor costing 325.00 but it was not fixed and they are just going to ship it to the Deer Park store for us to pick up. We buy all our pool supplies from you and are very disappointed with that kind of customer service

Follow up: I got another pump (third time is the charm) and it works. I also called the importer and we spoke for a bit about the issues.
He thinks that voltage spikes are a problem and suggests a surge suppressor. Also, he says that Island should not be pulling the circuitboard and fuse and making it a 2 speed switchable pump. They have the parts to fix the units properly and that customers should insist on the service being done correctly. (To check, unplug, remove the two screws at the back of the pump cover which contains the plug wire.
A green circuitboard nearly the the size of the motor should be in place. Don't mess with the switches.)
What the pump will do: in one mode (service), it will run at high speed for 5 minutes and then go to low speed. In the other, (auto) it will run at high for about 3-5 hours and then go to low speed.
Obviously, if you want continuous high speed, you will have to have your timer shut off and restart the pump. On my filter, the pressure shows zero in the low speed mode.
These guys should be arrested for selling these phony pieces of garbage. They know they're defective and they keep selling them.
